Morning is my favorite time of the day. But that has not always been like the case my whole life. I used to sleep in until 11am on the weekends and during holidays/vacations. It all began gradually last year that I started enjoy getting up earlier.
When I get up earlier I feel refreshed and I'm actually excited about starting my morningroutine. I have time for myself. The way you spend your mornings has a big impact on how your day goes. It's important to create a morningroutine that suits your lifestyle and that makes you excited to wake up.
How to get up earlier
Go to bed early
This one is pretty obvious and probably the most important. Make sure you sleep for at least 8 hours. If you don't sleep enough it will be so much harder to get out of bed. I'm speaking out of experience. I figured out that when I go to bed earlier, it's so much easier to wake up. I even sometimes wake up 10 minutes before my alarm clock...my alarm clock goes off at 6am.
Make sure you keep water by your bed. When your alarm clock goes off, drink some water. It will kickstart your metablism and it will wake you up. Your body is dehydrited from the night so it's important to drink enough in the morning.
Don't go on your phone
I think lots of people go on their phone first thing after they wake up. I don't. Because I don't want to start my day already checking my social media.
I don't want to waste my time in the morning on my phone and I feel like if I would, never actually get out of bed.
Open your windows
Air out your bedroom. Breath in that fresh air, it feels really good doesn't it? And while I'm letting that fresh air in, I make it a habit to make my bed. Making my bed makes me feel like I've already accomplished something. It also helps with not wanting to go back into your bed.
Shower or wash your face
Washing my face with cold water definetley wakes me up. I'm an evening- shower- person so I don't shower in the morning.
Make yourself a nourishing breakfast
Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. I don't know why but I just love everything about it. For me it's really important to eat a filling breakfast because the next time I can eat will be at 10am. For some of you that might not be a long time but for me it's impossible to concentrate in school without a good breakfast. Once didn't eat breakfast and I fell asleep again. It was not a great experience at all.
Make time to do things that bring you joy
Incoporate things into your morning that you enjoy. I thought about some things: I hope you'll find something you actually like.
- read a book
- do yoga or meditation
- listen to music
- write in your journal
- draw or paint
- create a to-do-list
- tidy up your house
- learn a language
I hope that I've been of some help in inspiring you to create an a enjoyable morningroutine and give you some advice. I want to know: Are you a morning bird or a night owl?
I wish you all the best
